Syncing subtitles accurately

You do a good job, Doc.

I am infinitely tolerant of they who work at communicating in a another tongue.

What I do not tolerate - mainly by ignoring - are they who deliberately distort any language, and its structure, in some illusion of "cool" (whatever...). They are almost as damned as they for whom the finer points of spelling and grammar are denied by ignorance.

Keep working at it, Doc. :D

Isn't... arse?
:D

Just like you said, on some forums in my country, I have same (apparently lost) "fight" against any kind of mIRC's terms (or "language").
I think if someone is trying to communicate with someone, even if it is in another language, he/she has duty to do it following some elementar rules.
But is only my thought.

my first post here to support my friend honeybunny: VSS rulez.
there's no other software with so many features and accuracy.

on italiansubs.net we have our own "mod" (VSS ItaSA Mod) which is even more powerful and it is designed to fulfill all our specific demands, the one you can find on the official website, however, has several features we suggesteddeveloped and can be useful for all users.

the topic here is sync, and vss does it in the most accurate way, but vss is the perfect tool to translate while syncing, so you can avoid using 2 programs and avoid a great waste of time.

Syncing with Media Player Classic

Didn't see mention of this anywhere so I am going to add it for those who do not wish to download specialised subs programs. Obviously its a crude method, but less intimidating, it's just an extra window containing the dialogue on top of the familiar MPC one.

1. Load the video file on MPC and start playing it. Also, have the subs file loaded, either automatically or manually, by dropping it on the MPC window.
2. CTRL + 6 to bring up the Subresync window (you can have it attached or separate from the main one, just double click on it's top bar).
3. Wait until the first spoken line. Make a note of the time. Move the movie progress slider back just before that moment.
4. Pause the movie at the time noted or a moment before (a few ms).
5. In the Subresync window, right click on that first, corresponding line of dialogue, and select Current. The "Time" of that line now is the same with the film's at the paused frame.
6. Move the slider towards the end of the movie, finding the last line spoken. Again, pause the movie just as it's about to be spoken.
7. In the Subresync window, scroll down the lines to find that last corresponding line of dialogue. Right click on it again, and select Current.
8. Move the slider somewhere around the middle of the film. Pause it when a random line is about to be spoken and resync it again via the Subresync window.
9. You are done, all that remains is to save the modified subs file, so, File --> Save Subtitle.. and click Save. (You can also select sub type and encoding here)

Note: this creates an additional "Style" file, its up to you to have it along, subs work with or without it.

Hi every body !
may I ask a question ?
I have a subtitle that is sync with a video file who has "lol" on it and it's not work probably with "2hd" of the same video .How can I sync it with my "2hd" file ?should I correct it with SW or not ? Is there any formula or I should sync it in my own way ?!

Thank you for your help

I'm not sure which topic is the right one for my question, so if this isn't it, please point me in a better direction.
At your (Administrators) suggestion, I downloaded Subtitle Workshop. It appears to work great in adding subtitles to the TV show I want. Now, how can I burn the show (with subtitles) onto a DVD? I've tried 'save as' and end up with a very small, and useless, file. Do I need something else, am I doing it wrong, or can it not be done? TIA.

All you have to do is save the srt file in the same folder as the video file and with the same naming format:

The.Show.S01E01.Ep.Title.avi
The.Show.S01E01.Ep.Title.srt

Thank you, Syncronator! That worked perfectly. I can now enjoy shows again.
