Program or software to hard-code srt. subtitles to video (VLC)

Hi there, fellow subtitlers!

I've been doing subtitles on SubtitleEdit for a long time and now I want to print or hard-code my subtitles on to video files.

Primarily, I'm thinking about .srt files on .mp3, .mp4 or mkv files; the sort of files you would watch on VLC Video Player.

I would appreciate if anybody out pointed me in the right direction? Thanks, lads.

Welcome, Torrent.UK :)

I think you can find many tutorials on YouTube or check Google. In my opinion this is a very generic question or I must completely mistaken your post.

Hello BorisVictor and pixxxie,

thank you both for your answer. They were very useful.

@pixxxie, I am actually on Windows. I checked the MKVTools website but it's only for Mac. Thanks anyway.

I have now tried Handbrake and it seems to be working all right for now.

Thank you both and I wish you many, many happy subtitles!

Necro Post

I have a video file with Spanish hardsubs.
I want to overlay other subs on top of those with a field or border to mask the Spanish subs.
The subs I have are in .srt, .ass, or .ssa format.
Can anyone point me to a program?
I do not have a good computer a present, and am running on a unit with limited capabilities.
Thank you.
