chrmdfreak
I recently downloaded an episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls, and to my surprise it has already a built-in subtitle attached to it (if that makes sense). My Sony TV recognizes this built-in sub and plays them without fail, but my Samsung TV needs it to be in a separate .srt file to play the subs. So I was wondering, how can I extract that softsub to make it a separate .srt file? Thank you for your reply.
Alice
G'day, chrmdfreak.First, please do no repeat a post in different subforums.I understand your question may well fit in either Tutorials or Software.Let us sort out your dilemmas, and don't force us to delete stuff.Like we did. Now, to answer your question...1. Open your browser.2. Go to Google.3. Type "How do i extract subtitles from mkv"4. Choose from the several free tools listed.I'm not being facetious.I actually did the first 3 steps above to provide you with an answer. Hope it helps!(P.S. -- Works for mp4 too, provided the video file has a timed text track.) The chickens are revolting!

First, sorry for posting on different sub forums, as you said, it fits in either Tutorials or Software. I didn't think it would be an issue. Second, I actually searched that same "how to" on google (believe it or not) before I posted my question here, but I don't usually and easily trust, and install such programs/tools as I've learned from years of experience that some of them come bundled with adware. They do the job well, yes, but some of them do shady stuff in the background. I do have antivirus and antimalware installed, but I know even those programs have limitations, so I think it's best that I'm careful in the programs that I install. Third, I actually came here because addic7ed.com has become such a reliable and SAFE site for subtitles, subtitle inquires, and the like. I wanted to make sure that the help that I'm getting is from a reliable source, a trusted source. again, thanks for your prompt reply.
Alice
You should have included that bit of info in your first post, having already searched I mean =). As a matter of policy, I'm sorry: we won't recommend or vouch for a specific software, commercial or not. I can tell you, however, that some subtitle editors handle the conversion you are asking for. You may want to have a look at the Subtitle Edit thread.Version 3.4.7 is fresh off the presses. Cheers. The chickens are revolting!
