oodavid
I know there are various pitfalls of automatic subtitle searching, but have a half-formed idea that might be interesting to pursue. Reconciling the filename (with encoding info, ripper name etc) is usually trivial as you can compare the additional details with those presented on the various subtitle websites; however the moment the file is renamed this becomes a chore... downloading a load of subtitle files and testing each. Which is arduous at best. So my idea is to: MD5SUM the file to get a hash (which will remain even after renaming) Paste the hash into the subtitle website And either...: Get a matching subtitle or Fall back to the usual search functionality, however the hash is kept in the session and then linked to the movie / show. The user is then prompted if the subtitle worked etc. Just a rough idea at the moment, but looking for feasibility feedback...
nemo
Sounds a lot like what http://www.opensubtitles.org are using.
