This show is brilliant and is back on friday in its last season. Even though there has only been 2 seasons, its pure magic. I would like to know if there are any fans of the english version out there.

Hmm, what is it about?

first series a male cop goes back in time, second series a female cop, they go back to 70s and 80s respectively I think, its a mixture of funny, sad, and everything that usually keeps you watching,
it also has great songs playing in the background that you love and remember and end up trying to find them again. It does start a bit weird in the first series but if you hang in there its worth it.

There was a Usian spin-off that, sadly, died; pity, really, I thought it quite good.

But the programme to which you refer is entirely British, and of typical UK excellence of creativitve talent, and it is inappropriate to refer to it as "the english version".

I agree with you, not least because I was born and bred in the area it's set. (And Gene Hunt is priceless!)

The US version was actually quite good - different, and more "inspired by" than a version of the original, but I enjoyed it, once it had got going.

If you can get it, try it - you might like it.

There wasn't a US version of Ashes, it was Life On Mars, with Harvey Keitel playing the Gene Hunt character.

I did watch part of the first episode of "life on mars" but it didn't seem the same, as you say, gene hunt is "priceless" we need people like him in real life (laughing) instead of all this protection of the criminal classes, maybe we should start a "bring gene hunt to life" campaign. thanks for your comments spyder.

I only watched Life on Mars (US) and I really enjoyed it, although the finale spoiled it for me.. Anything but that could have worked...

Yes, the hastily contrived Life on Mars (US) finale was a bit of a bodge - but the plug had been pulled (and it showed).

If you liked it, I suggest that you look at the original (UK) production to see what it was actually trying to emulate.

The original also has lots of great pop music of the time, especially David Bowie tracks from which both the "Life On Mars" and "Ashes To Ashes" references are taken.

I don't know about the whole "shot and we don't know if she's alive or dead" story, and frankly, I don't care...
Limbo or not, Give me Alex once a week and I'm happy :-)
