What Does 'raised Xxx Of Xxx' Means?

Currently, the chip in button shows 'Raised xxx of $500'.

What does the $500 cover? Is it something like a monthly cost or an annual one?

I'd just like to know how often I'll have to donate. :)

You have to donate as often as you feel like it. No one if "forcing" your hand, and VIP subscription never expires.
The 500$ limit was picked to cover server (soon, probably another server, to keep the page fast), coding and other small expenses that we might bump into during a month.
However, expenses are usually below 500$. Because when the shows are on break (summer, for example) there are fewer visitors on the website (and usually fewer donors), if the donations don't cover expenses, money saved in the previous month are used. I setup 500$ as a safe limit so we'll never experience financial problems or to have less money to put into development.
