Overview:
A translation memory, or TM, is a database that stores so-called "segments", which can be sentences, paragraphs or sentence-like units (headings, titles or elements in a list) that have previously been translated, in order to aid human translators. The translation memory stores the source text and its corresponding translation in language pairs called “translation units”. Individual words are handled by terminology bases.

OmegaT is a free translation memory application written in Java. It is a tool intended for professional translators and it has SRT support. It helps translator groups because it remembers all the sentences already translated so there's no need to translate them again and again. It also allows groups to keep a glossary database with no need to load a third party app.

Guide:
1. Download and Install free OmegaT in your language.
2. Double-click to open the program.
3. Select Project -> New
4. Create a new folder to save the translation project and its folders
5. Save it as "New Project"
6. Define the source language (EN-US or EN-GB) and the output language.
7. Press OK to continue.
8. Click on Import Source File
9. Open a set of SRT files you want to translate. It can be a single TV episode or all season episodes. Make sure the source file is already spell checked and timed.
10. Click on the episode you want to translate. Close the Project Files window to proceed.
11. You gonna see the segment in English (noneditable) and below the same segment in English (editable) marked as <segment 0001>. Start by translating the first segment.
12. Press Enter to proceed to next segment. Notice that all the segments with similar content will be translated at once. You'll just need to translate unique English segments.
13. When you finish translating all segments, left-click Project, and select Create Translated.Documents.
14. Then go to the folder you saved the translation project, select New Project folder I asked you to create on step 5. Double-click target folder. Your subtitle file should be there translated.
15. Open the srt file on Subtitle Workshop to correct too long lines and make a final revision.

You guys can share the Project folders with your friends and the TMX file as well. You'll never need to translate already translated sentences again. Remember to populate the TMX file with new sentences and the internal dictionary with new slangs and terms. Since 80% of tv series dialogues are always the same, you'll just need to translate 20% of all-new episodes. Open an account on http://mymemory.translated.net/ to store your group TMXs and new glossaries (a medical glossary for example).
