Frank70
Hi, bunny. First - thank you for the rich crop of subs pouring in over the last two days! Spartacus. From what I've seen so far, Spartacus romps along with a minimal story line that exists merely to support - or justify - a plot motif of, "If it moves, screw it or kill it, or screw it then kill it, or kill it, then screw it... Then throw a few more buckets of blood and another naked body into the mix - in slow motion". It's porn, both sex-porn and gore-porn - an episodic snuff-movie. It has no value or merit as anything else but porn, and it's a pity that such high quality production resources and talent have been squandered on what will no doubt become very popular, especially among spotty prepubescents. Rome worked because it just managed to avoid falling into the trap of appealing solely to the salacious; this was, at least in part, because the history of the Rome of that period is well documented - indeed, a familiarity with the history more enabled one to enjoy the series. But the legend of Spartacus is so flimsy that this series can safely ditch any pretense of being history (other than a few dodgy archaisms of speech and costume intended to assist the target audience in convincing themselves that it's a worthwhile thing to watch). s. Spartacus is just entertainment. The 300 effects make it great, just for the thrill of sensation! And I LIKE IT ! 300 had also not really a great storyline(although history, not much was used in the film), but still a reall MANLY movie:D:D:D:D:D:D:D And calling Spartacus porn? Your funny, as I really would not call a few tits and dicks once in a while porn. But on the other hand I can believe that this is actually more historically accurate then all the prudely dressed people in the historicly accurate series you have in mind. But this is just my 2 cents....
spyderspyder
"Spartacus is just entertainment" Of course it is - a full-circle, bread-and-circuses irony to distract the masses as we hurtle from decadence to chaos, with as much hstorical virtue as Up Pompeii. The "sex porn" does not really bother me so much as the "gore porn", and the ease with which it has become such an acceptable characteristic of entertainment that few seem to even notice it. But as a very clever man once said, "If two of us agree on everything, then one of us is redundant". s. Important links: Forum Help.Never look before you leap, it'll spoil the surprise. We see a bunch of naked people, I think that most of us are past the period of high closed clothing that also reaches to the ankle. Some tit and dick do not shock that much people. Is it shocking that it is accepted with ease? I don't know, I guess we are all born naked(at least I was), and that the only difference is the shape and size of things But maybe I am too easy on matters like this because I am from the most easy country of Europe Frank

Dawg
Just finished Rome, and it was great. I love HBO Shows. What's it about? is it a series, full movie, what?
spyderspyder
@ Blahh! I agree - The Good Wife cracks on quite well. It's nice to see Julianna Margulies again, especially after her last "lawyer" outing ("Canterbury's Law") was canned before it really got going. @ Dawg "Rome" is a reimagining of Ancient Rome's move from Republic to Empire (1st century BCE - Caesar's invasion of Gaul, thru' the rise of the Augustus). It does this through the two main characters, a pair of Roman legionaires, Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo. It's good, and almost 100% European talent (mainly Brits and Its). The background history is largely accurate, and I reckon that a familiarity with the history of Rome will ensure one gets 100% out of it, but even if you'd never heard of Rome and the Roman empire, it works brilliantly. Try it - you'll be hooked. s. Important links: Forum Help.Never look before you leap, it'll spoil the surprise.

Dawg
Is that the only way you can watch shows? No. 99% of the shows I watch are divx format, thus the need for sub's. For new shows thou I like to watch a episode or 2 on the idiot box before dl'ing then searching for a sub.

n3mes1s
Spartacus is not a good tv serie?????????????????????? omg guys... xD, i dont know where u have the taste. Spartacus is one of the best action tv series ive ever seen. U can like ir or not, but it is if course a good tv serie. Of course is not a tv serie for kids. I will recommend "LIE TO ME","EUREKA","TRUE BLOOD","PUSHING DAISIES" and a lot more.
spyderspyder
I'm glad you mentioned "Lie To Me" - I have a love-hate relationship with this programme. It is often quite good - it could be very good. The main problem, for me, is the snivelling, ill-mannered, over-acted, loutish , smelly (well, he looks smelly), Yahoo presented in the main character. I want to slap him! s. Important links: Forum Help.Never look before you leap, it'll spoil the surprise.
n3mes1s
Well, u right spyder, but i love Tim Roth since "reservoir dogs" (in a profesional way of course xD), and i think LIE to ME is a good tv serial, but sometimes it is a bit over re-acting. I recently finished the view of "THE PACIFIC", the best war tv series ive ever seen, after Band of Brothers and Generation One (hmm cant remember the exactly name, dont know if it was "One" xD). I strongly recommend THE PACIFIC. I am another "weird" person who doesnt like "HOUSE" or "LOST" xD. And nobody said nothing about comedy tv series, "THE IT CROWD" and "THE BIG BANG THEORY" are essentials. Maybe two of the best comedy tv serials ive ever seen. And , for god sake, ¿¿Spartacus porn? lol, there is no porn on spartacus, u guys must be wrong. U can only see naked bodies sometimes, but thats all. The main characteristic of Spartacus is the explicit violence, but it is necessary to show "sex" scenes, cuz it is one of the supossed characteristics of the Roman Empire. Mr.Universe
In the days of Yore I loved The Dukes of Hazzard. :-D If you appreciate wit over fun, character development, fun over wit, snarky remarks, intelligent, good dialogue, and want to hook up on one of the best shows written...Watch FireflyOpening CreditsBig Damn HeroesThis Land Are you still reading? Go, watch it, become a Browncoat! And if you don't fall in love with it. Now, I shall come, and find you, where you live, and then... Get a beer with you. You know, I love it so much, doesn't matter, main thing is I can talk about it. :-D We're a nice, lovely, dedicated bunch:Click me, I won't bite!did I mention good writing? Oh, yes, it's in space, but there no aliens, in fact, they are not in space that often, so it's in the future, that's about all of it, that's science fiction. Forget Star Trek, Star Wars, and all that kind. It's Joss Whedon! And now excuse me, I've got to go crying, because I won't get a 2nd season.
