PCWorth
Hi Forum members, I would be grateful for any advice regarding an annoying subtitle problem I have struck. With this particular stream of the old Danish series Bron Broen, watched on a Panasonic smart TV via a portable hard drive, the English subtitles are present, but there is a lot of other information which is unnecessary, and distracts from viewing. I've attached a representative screen shot of the TV to illustrate the phenomenon. A friend who has watched the same version of the series on a different brand of television had no such problem and the subtitles were viewable in a "clean" state. It's not the first time I have struck this issue, and I assume it is something to do with the way my TV processes the digital input. However, I am wondering whether there is anything I can do to eliminate the unwanted content, perhaps using MKVToolMix or Handbrake, for example. I'm not an expert with these programmes but have used them for simple things like adding subtitles to a video, or adjusting subtitle timing. I'd greatly appreciate any comments or suggestions. Regards, Peter Edited September 5, 2021 by PCWorth
eggie1961
Those are subtitles in .ass format. They are likely embedded in the video and your TV inbuilt player is unable to handle them. I suggest using Handbrake to burn them into the video. At least I now know what the problem is due to, and I will try the measures you suggested, to see if I can improve the situation. Regards
PCWorth
Brilliant, guys! I was able to remove the .ass subtitles using MKVToolNix and install fresh .srt subtitles at the same time. It worked perfectly...job done! Thanks again for your help.
