Yet another update of SE brings the version number up to 3.5.3 :)

Download and full change log: https://github.com/SubtitleEdit/subtitleedit/releases

NOTE: The names dictionary (previously "names_etc.xml") has been renamed to just "names.xml".
Local names lists can have a black list section which should make it easier to have more names in "names.xml" without messing up when working with non-Egnlish languages.

A few of the other changes:

  • New Netflix quality checker - thx askolesov/pavel-belenko
  • Added "Total words" to statistics - thx Barbara
  • Added "Video auto-load" to UI settings - thx mtarini (can now be turned off)
  • In "Change casing" it's now possible to add extra names
  • "Insert subtitle here..." added to waveform context menu
  •  Fixed original file name bug in "Undo" - thx darnn
  •  Some minor fixes for spell check "change whole word" - thx N/A

Try Tools -> Change casing - and then choose "Normal casing" and remember to check "Fix names casing".

Thanks Nikse, it worked superb :1290892346:

Hello. How can I change the subtitle preview position on video to be up a little bit? Because I use a big font for "subtitle preview font size" and when I do that, if a line is more than one line, the second line will be invisible. Is there a shortcut key to move it up and down. Please help me because this is driving me crazy.

Here is an image that will show the issue:

And also I should mention that I use a new laptop with what is called high DPI. This makes me use a scaling of 125%. And if I opened Subtitle Edit this way it becomes very blurry and unusable, so I have to check the "override high dpi scaling behavior" (in SE properties) to make SE looks good.

The issue of the font size disappears if I use SE without checking the "override high dpi scaling behavior"

So I'm stuck with two terrible choices, 1: Using SE with blurry fonts.   2: No blurry but you can't see two lines subtitles.

Subtitle Edit 3.5.7 is out now: https://github.com/SubtitleEdit/subtitleedit/releases

This release contains some new settings which should give better control of the subtitle font inside SE (text box and list view font are now separate settings) + many shortcuts has been added and should now be easier to find.
And as usual there are tons of minor fixes: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/SubtitleEdit/subtitleedit/master/Changelog.txt

@bbcby: Margin should now work in "Batch convert"

@NandC: "Original text" will appear if you use "Translate" or you can open the original translation via "File" -> "Open original subtitle..."

I received a virus alert when using the installer version. Anything to worry ?

What anti virus program(s) are you using?

I recommend checking files with Virus Total: https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/7ce2005587c2d06a2a7d6e9a73d1d39f39c9cb55e1ba920756c2edfaa3842847/detection

You can always ask the anti virus companies to check files for false positives!
(I've written to the Kiev based "Zillya" anti virus about probable false positive)

Yes Trend Micro.

Anyway, it's working now.

Another thing, SE is very very slow at launching. Any other noticed that ?

After, it works perfectly.

Hi, Nikse, and thanks for a fantastic subtitle tool!

Could you please explain what this option does? It's in Options / Settings / Waveform/spectrogram:

"Border marker hit must be within [...] milliseconds"

Thanks!
